  • Pilates Matwork classes - YMCA One KX

Our matwork classes are a great place to learn the basic movements, breathing patterns and spinal stability of Pilates. Matwork classes improve the body's core strength, endurance and control. Exercises are selected to challenge mobility and stabilisation through the core while adding flexibility and suppleness to your body. Resistance props are often used to add variety to the exercises. A regular matwork practice will improve your posture, core strength and promote a healthy back.

Beginners Matwork

The mat classes are a great place to learn the basic movements and breathing patterns of Pilates, integrating the mind and body resulting in increased energy and relaxation. Muscles are used deeply without significant stress or tension to build a strong posture, a healthy back, physical control and a flexible, functional body.

Intermediate Matwork

This class builds on exercises taken from the beginners matwork repertoire, incorporating more challenging choreography and delivered at a faster pace. Sculpt your entire body with this intermediate level class, improving your endurance, strength and stamina. This class is recommended for when you have mastered the exercises at the beginners' level.

Matwork Essential and Intermediate

This class integrates both a beginners and intermediate Pilates repertoire. Learn the crucial essential breathing patterns of Pilates, while also learning how to put this into practice and perform Pilates choreography at a faster and more challenging pace. This class is open to all levels.

Matwork Conditioning

Matwork Conditioning continues to build on endurance and core strength while improving the body's stamina. Elongate, tone and strengthen muscles without building bulk. Props such as toning balls, the Fitness Circle® resistance ring and Flex-Band® exercisers are incorporated to add variety and proprioceptive awareness. Attending a Beginners Matwork class is a pre-requisite for this class.

See how simple Pilates moves can keep your mind and body sharp when combined in intense interval sequences. This full body exercise routine delivers a rewarding exercise regimen which helps strengthen and tone from head to toe.

ZEN•GA™ Mat

Zen•Ga™ is a practise which engages both the mind and body. It improves awareness of how the body and mind work together by focusing on core stability, stamina and resilience while attaining a state of presence. By working the neuromuscular system it improves strength, enhances elasticity and helps develop a more youthful, resilient and fluid body. Zen•Ga™ is mat-based class that incorporates elements of Pilates, yoga and tai chi. It increases circulation, stimulates the central nervous system and improves flexibility all while strengthening the mind-body connection.
